Today’s report from the CQC on Derriford Hospital outlines a number of serious issues. Our NHS is being chronically underfunded and it’s having a real effect on our hospital. Derriford has serious structural underfunding problems and Plymouth needs more money from Government to address this.

As an expecting Mum to be, I know just how important the NHS is and how hard staff at Derriford are working. They simply can’t keep doing more and more with less and less. It just isn’t sustainable and needs addressing.

Underfunding at Derriford has been known for some time, so why didn’t our Conservative MP Mr Mercer turn up and raise issues with the new Health Secretary in his job on the Health Select Committee just a few weeks ago? The least our Conservative MP could do is to show up and do his job instead of going on celebrity TV when he should have been working. NHS staff don’t get time off for celebrity telly, so why should Mr Mercer?
