Last night I spoke to BBC Spotlight about the ongoing issues of underfunding in our NHS, and how it is not acceptable that elective orthopaedic operations have been moved out of Derriford Hospital to a private contractor.

The fact that we have got to this point shows how the NHS, particularly here in Plymouth, has been suffering from systemic underfunding for years under this Tory government.

It is not acceptable that Plymouth’s NHS services are being shipped out to profit-making organisations that are there to serve their shareholders instead of just being able to focus on what is best for their patients.

I want to see some of those root causes that lead to these decisions really tackled with proper funding, rather than resorting to private contractors who will be making profits and more on some of these relationships.
