I had a brilliant time up at Southway Community Centre today popping into their new coffee morning and catching up with mums and volunteers over cake after the Barnados sensational babies group.
It was great to be joined by Sally Cresswell, Labour’s Council Candidate for Southway in the upcoming local elections in May. As a former teacher in Southway, Sally understands the area really well and it was great to discuss some local issues in real detail.
Proper support for young mums and early years is so important. Whilst eating cake is great there is also a serious point: I talked with people about early years support across Southway and how it has changed over the years, particularly given the impact of a number of local schools becoming academies under the Conservative Government.
